Marine CFD - Department of Marine Technology at NTNU

  • A Strategic University Program in Marine CFD started at NTNU in 2004.
  • The program is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and the first phase lasted for 5 years.
  • The main focus is computational fluid dynamics involving interaction between research groups in marine hydrodynamics, fluid mechanics, and computational mathematics at NTNU, Trondheim, Norway.
  • Currently the main topics of research are: bluff body wakes, particle flows, ship-to-ship interaction, and interaction flow-plants in marine environments.
  • NTNU has invested in Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) equipment from Dantec Dynamics (opens in new window). The equipment is used in the towing tanks and will be used for doing basic laboratory experiments in close cooperation with the CFD-projects.
