Software

Here, access is made available to 2 software tools for Process Integration that can be used to support the solution of many of the assignments in the course.  The first computer program, called PRO_PI1, is a very simple and graphical tool to analyse heat recovery in process plants.  The second program, called HINT, is considerably more complex and thus more powerful, and can be used to analyse, to design and to optimize Heat Exchanger Networks.  Both programs are based on Pinch Analysis for heat recovery problems, and the use of these packages will provide additional and important insight and is therefore highly recommended.

1.  PRO_PI1

By using the right mouse button, a local version of the program can be stored (it only requires 644 kB).  It is recommended to take a look at the "User Guide" before using the program.  If you still experience problems, get in touch with the lecturer.  Notice that PRO_PI is an ExCel Add-in (witho Macros), and to restore the file type (.xla and not .xls), the link below is to a zipped version of the software.

This software tool is developed by Industriell Energianalys AB at Chalmers Industriteknik in Gothenburg, Sweden.  The links for download are given below:

2.  HINT

A more comprehensive computer program has been downloaded as freeware from Internet at a link that has not been maintained and thus no longer exists.  The software HINT was developed by Angel Martin at a small university in Spain a couple of years ago.

The software can be downloaded by using the right mouse button at the link below.  A zip file can then be stored locally that contains an installation program (Setup.exe) that has to be run.  Due to extensive use of graphics with multiple screen pictures (frames), it is not sufficient to simply copy an executable (.exe) version of the program from one computer to another, the software has to be installed at each PC.
